Event Description:
How do we reconcile the notion that human beings have free will with the belief that God sovereignly ordains and sustains all things that transpire in the world? Are these two beliefs incompatible? Furthermore, if God sovereignly ordains and sustains all things that transpire in the world, then how can he escape being charged with culpability for evil? Does human free will absolve him of this culpability? This lecture will present arguments for compatibilism, the belief that a particular view of free will is compatible with God’s sovereignty and therefore absolves him of being charged with culpability for evil.
