What Happens to Those Who Never Hear the Gospel?Jewish Restoration Eschatology and the Problem of the Unevangelized in Ancient Judaism and
Christianity

This lecture will investigate the beliefs of Ancient Jews and Christians regarding the fate of the unevangelized in the afterlife and the final judgment. The beliefs of various groups in Ancient Israel, Second Temple Judaism, and Early Christianity will be examined from a historical and descriptive perspective, with a particular emphasis on inclusive hopes for religious “others”. The concept of “Jewish restoration eschatology” will be explored as a solution to the problem of the unevangelized in Early Jewish and Christian literature.

Jeshua Malroy (TAMU, Class of 2021) is an enthusiast of the academic study of biblical literature in their original historical contexts. He developed this interest while studying at Texas A&M and has since explored scholarship on the Hebrew Bible and Ancient Judaism/Christianity, with a particular emphasis on addressing topics that contribute to religious trauma. Jeshua is passionate about making cutting-edge research in biblical studies accessible to lay audiences, regardless of their religious orientation. Jeshua is pursuing his PhD at Baylor College of Medicine, and when he is not in the lab researching ways to engineer T cells against solid tumors, he enjoys playing the cello/piano and reading the scholarly literature in biblical studies.
